"A Middle Eastern Muslim in the US once killed his daughter because of her actions; I don't remember exactly what she did..." A man killed his daughter, her husband, their child and their unborn child (his grandchildren) because the girl married beneath her social class. You're right to point out that the media distorts information, and I also think American/Muslim values have to be taken into consideration (influenced by the media, of course). To me, this is clearly a domestic violence issue, on par with a white man killing his daughter for marrying a mechanic (for example). No matter how the story was reported, I have seen first-hand how a racist environment could lead one to presume that this falls into the terrorism/violent Middle Easterner catch-all. As a culture we're only two generations past a time when segregation was "acceptable". Parents who grew up being taught hate will often teach their children the same. The man who committed this crime probably grew up with equally disturbing fallacies regarding status. There is more than one negative outcome to ignoring the big picture.
I am a man without a country, but I am an optimist.
I come from a religious background, but I am a pragmatist.
I love to write, but I am a scientist (by training).
Here you will find my perspective on the US, Pakistan, the Middle East, and the rest of the world.
